.........or you have a worn bearing ...Well i think this engine will need to be restored!

The looseness is probably not apparent to look at or even feel...... overall worn bearings do not need to slap loose to be too loose for the oil fil to build up. Not surprising since you never said that the engine was knocking.....

...as previously mentioned if you rebuild it yourslef don't forget to get new bearing for the camshaft which will no doubt need to be installed by the machine shop.

Good luck with the tear down....Gilles should have some good lead on the HUll shop that rebuilt his engine.
