There is hope though
Keith –
I know the feeling, it seems that we as a society are not teaching basic patriotic etiquette. There is hope though yesterday on the day the US celebrates Memorial Day. They stopped most sporting events at 3 pm for a moment of silence. What I found hopeful is that they stopped a major NASCAR race instructed the fans to rise remove their hats and remain silent which the vast majority did as they stood silent for the entire time, all the race cars pulled up on the main straight and shut off there motors. Good tribute and a good way of reminding and teaching people how to show respect.
Earlier in the day our local military vehicle club had done a small town parade, which was basically one time around the town common. Followed by ceremonies and wreathe laying at each of the town cemeteries. This little town has its ceremonies at 8:15 in the morning as it is the only way they can get the High School Band that participates in three other parades that day. I really enjoy doing the small town parades much more than larger city parades because the people in the small towns seem to get the point more.
