The rear face of the cab "roof" looks like the base of the cab back and roof where it joins to the lower part of the cab back. It seems possible that someone wanted an open back for their cab (to see/access whatever deck or winch they had mounted) and took part of what was now the surplus upper cab back and joined it to the roof, reasoning that the angle iron would do a great job of stiffening the cab roof. There looks to be a crosswise joint on the roof at about the point where this theory would suggest.
