Default Standard tillies in Australia

Interesting web page here :

http://www.geocities.com/standardold...itarypage.html

We had a couple of these cars active in the VMVC years ago, they attended quite a few outings , but they have long dissapeared from the scene . A batch ( around 60-70 we think ) were shipped out here towards the end of the war .. and quickly sold of into civvy street . These cars are known for having dodgy cable operated brakes . I was tempted to buy one , but they are not up to it it modern traffic , you would be better of converting the brakes to a hydraulic system. One example was sold at the Belfield Auction 2 years back .

Done some reading and apparently , some Standard tillies were assembled by Standard cars LTD Australia, in 1945 , Melbourne , then sold through their dealerships .... This isn't 100% comfirmed , but it sounds like a feasible scenario. I recall one that was definately sold at the Govt. surplus sales at Totenham around 1956, a ex RAAF vehicle , so that sort of throws a spanner into the story.
