Just spotted this on Ebay in case anyone wants one .

This .50cal mount was manufactured by the Howard Rotorvator Company in 1959. It was not for an ACCO as it was too early for them. I was told by Mike Cecil (AWM) that it was primarily produced as an experimental fixed position mount for gate guard duties etc. It has three mounting points not four so won't fit the Humber 1tonner 4X4 either. Being very lightly built, it was not accepted by the military and quite a number were released about 7 years ago. I found mine at Bendigo Swap Meet in 1999 and paid $50.00 for it. The springs to counterbalance the .50cal are easily adjusted and it is a very easy to handle mount.

Built by the Howard Auto Cultivator Company. or HAC. Howard's had a prior record as a contractor to the Aust Defence Dept, being the WW2 Australian manufacturer of the Revolver, No2 Mk1*. These were sold in a large number in an auction in the late 90's and an opinion was expressed by someone at the auction that the NSN number on the timber crates was a Centurion number. However, that said, pictures exist of the ACCO prototype trials featuring one mounted on the cab. I have never seen these fitted in service to a Mk3 or Mk4 ACCO.

Came across a little footage of these .50 cal. mounts being tested on the ACCO prototype, appear to work very well. 7.22 mins, to 8.14.

Next year at Corowa when you see the dwindling stock of these being sold, you won't have to ask what they are for...
Some great bits of the trucks being tested further on, shame about the film quality and that bloody music!
And just for Dave M., there was a even comment about how hard it was to fit chains while snow testing at Cabramurra...
