Humber scout car interior colour

Hi,

what was the colour of the interior of the Humber sc during ww2?
Some say it was silver but other say it was white, is there someone who can tell me what it really was?
Many thanks.

regards,

Dennis

We have discussed this question before before at length.
Perhaps someone can provide a link to the thread.

Basicaly at the start of the war all British Army AFV's had silver interiors. At a later unknown date and probably due to the lack of suitable paint pigments, white was used, and by the end of the war they were back to silver.

My Humber Armoured Car manufactured in 1943 had a silver interior.

thanks Neil, I did a search but I couldn't find the thread you mentioned.

Dennis,

I agree with Neil. I have worked on a Humber Scout, that appeared to have never been stripped down. On removing some fittings, it was evident that the original interior had been silver, but subsequently it had white overpainted.

My 44 Humber Scout MK II, had white underneath but no silver, and judging by my frame number it was a Dec. 44 build date.

New engine compartment respray..

Lance,

You bought your Humber Scout in Holland, did you not? IIRC, this was restored from a complete wreck with hardly (if any) paint left, similar to the one show below (picture linked from LWDparts.com). I think this one came from the same cache as yours.

Hanno

of the 4 humber Armour cars I have had the chance to study and work on, 3 where silver and one white.

lssah2025 18-09-11 06:51

It wasn't from the same cache, it was supposedly from a a different owner, those in the pic were originally owned by Clive, from the info that I have received and investigated over the last few years, but can I say that I am 100% positive, no I can't...
After restoring it for a second time I found a different layer of white (small patch), now was it from the original, who knows. Or was it a test batch of white from the museum when they restored it, who knows!!! I know the museums other car (without the roof) was restored at the same time and has the same color, mirrors etc as mine.
In my original pics that I have some appear silver and some white, the early cars appear silver and a few of the MK II's appear white. I wish I had a definitive time frame on what was painted what and when..

Look at Jack in the Box II (HSC MK I) F196345, it appears to have a white interior and went to the museum right after the war. Now I do not think it has been repainted on the inside, maybe someone at the museum can shed some light.

Silver Or White Interior

Hi all - once again into the realm of paint colours. Again with this Humber both colours appear correct. Choose the one you like but mention on the accompanying story board the contentious paint issues. Look at your Humber and see if there is a predominant colour, if there is, go with that. At the end of the day there will always be somebody who will say it is the wrong colour.

Were there any internal photograhs in the Wheel and Tracks articles or alternatively held in the library at Bovington. The difference between white and silver in photographs should be fairly obvious?

I have spoken to armoured cars crew who were instructed to paint their vehicles both externally and internally.

Updated pics, using post war gauges until my original/correct ones are restored, also have the correct speedo to put in. Brand new wiring harness being completed, next the engine will go back in, then exterior paint and finish bolting in the internal bins etc...

Would that be "Charmian" ? ;)

lssah2025 14-10-11 13:39

Ahhh... that would be a great vehicle, no work should be required with that beauty....The new project on the other hand will need a complete restoration!!!! I know we talked before about it, but has your workload changed for another partial project? Say restoration of chassis, engine, tranny and drive train, sandblast hull etc, primer and then ship....
