Chevy Data Plate
 

Guys,
Is there any one out there who would be willing to help a fellow restorer with a small problem. I have recently been in contact with a chap up in Northumberland (UK) who is currently restoring a possible C30 or C60S, (MVT members will have seen the truck on the back of the latest issue of Windscreen. It looks like she is sitting on 10.50x16 wheels/tyres). The problem is, is that the owner, does not have a data plate for her, therefore is unable to proceed with registering her with the DVLA.
Is there anyone out there who:
1, maybe has a data plate from a scapped C30 or C60S, 13 cab pattern, and
2, would be willing to part with said dataplate to help put this truck back on the road.

Why not just get some of the repro ones Dirk sells and put all your own numbers on it. Thats what Im planning to do with the ones I bought from him. Or would that be considered tabo in your parts?

Also would the government people know any better?

How are you gonna do it????

Rotters in Ottawa, who have been considering stamping our own copies of Dirk's data plates.... only considering as we would never actually do it......

Were do you get the reverse image alpha/num dies to stamp from behind....??

According to some machinist we talked to in Barrie they do exist but are not readily available.....for example Princess does not have any reverse stamps......

Process is called "embossing" when you stamp them from behind.

Some suppliers in Pittsburg PA.....Panier.... do sell machine that will embosse dog tags, special weather resistant labelling for ezternal pipelines..... but we have not been able to find a supplier of individual letters and numbers......

My VIN number on my modern truck is embossed from the factory.... but no doubt done by machine with a CNC control.....

Any ideas out there where we can find such embossing supply??

Why not standard punch?
 

Take a look at Australian Chevrolet WO database http://www.mapleleafup.org/forums/sh...&threadid=1894 about 2/3rds of the way down you will see a Holden plate stamped with standard metal punch lettering dies. I would suspect that in the field replacements would be done with a standard punch instead of reverse side punch.

Jordan, Unless one appears, then obtaining one from Dirk may be the only way forward, unfortunately, the local DVLA inspector for the area where this truck is, is very observant, and may start asking all sorts of questions.
