Carrier Driver
1 Attachment(s)
I recently had a visit from a Veteran of the Dutch army. He told me stories of his time in the East Indies during the uprisings and his time driving Bren Carriers. I offered him the opportunity to take mine for a ride, he jumped at the chance, I mean jumped he was in the drivers seat long before I could crawl. He hadn't driven one in 60 years, I wish I could drive it as well as him, never clashed a gear, no jarring. I was glad the carrier wasn't in as good as shape as he was, as I think he would have driven in back to BC. I have attached a few photos he sent to me from his time in the service.

Vickers Equipped!
Gord,
That was nice of you to let thast fellow take a drive in your machine. The pictures that he left you with are just about the only ones that I have seen of Vickers equipped Carriers in action. A few years ago I wrote to RF Fendick ( 'A CANLOAN Officer') when I read in his book that he used the big British gun in his Carrier work in NE Europe. He lamented that no drawings were availible to make a reproduction for display. Apart from the bits that you have collected, I have not seen a live one either. Thanks for posting them. Stewart |
