Coles Crane on CMP Bodies?
I'm just wondering if the Coles Crane was ever fitted to CMP chassis during the war.
I'd like to one up in 1/35 using some parts I already have and scratchbuilding the rest but there isn't much point if it didn't excist. Thanks for your help in advance. Sean:remember |
I myself have never seen or heard of one but I have been known to be wrong in the past heaps of time :D

Coles cranes
The Canadian Army did have Diamond T 969 trucks with Coles EMA cranes mounted on them, presumably converted when they arrived in Britain. This is the same crane as fitted to the Austin K6.

Info
From the DND papers there were just two (2) of these CMP Coles Crane F60H lorries, which were assembled probably in Southampton CMD, and delivered by 31st December 1940. The papers however show that five (5) bodies, were purchased from Henry J Coles Ltd, under Contract no. 10 for "Bodies for Lorries 3 ton Derrick Crane" so the other three must have been acquired in early 1941? A check of all bodies ordered for UK delivery did not reveal any more Coles bodies, so presumably the Diamond T fitments were acquired from the Ministry of Supply. So my answer is that there were five CMPs with Coles Cranes.
For those interested there were also 27 # 11 Cab Breakdown F60H chassis with Wakefield bodies, by Charles Roberts Co Ltd. |
Thanks much
Excellent information. I now have another project...oh no!
Thank You Sean |
