Australian Van bodied CMP's
I found this photo in the AWM data banks and it has a van bodied CMP in the background.
http://tortuga.dnsrouter.com/~mlu/fo...=&postid=72047 Does anyone have any information, photos etc of these Australian Forces Van bodied CMP's as I do not have much knowledge of them and would like to include one in my future model list? Cheers Cliff :) |
Cliff:
Try contacting Dave Prince at davprin1@optus.net.com.au He seems to have a fair amount of stuff on Australian bodied CMP vehicles. I do not know if the address is still valid, I bookmarked his site several years ago. Bill |

Thanks Bill. I did have the link to David Princes' site and have gone back to it.
Some of the bodies I already know about but what David's site does not show are van bodied Australian CMP's like in the background of the photo. I have the odd photo of libary trucks, recruiting trucks etc. which may have been one off builds or done in very low numbers and it is these that I am trying to gain more knowledge on. Cheers Cliff :) |
Dave's stuff
From memory the pics on Dave Prince's site were poor photocopies from the DMV book.
I have made reproduction DMV books where every image has been rescanned and cleaned up in case anyone is interested for $35 each plus postage. There was someone selling a fairly crappy photocopied version for $50 at Corowa. As for the body in question I think it may be a Truck, DF (Aust) which was used mainly by the RAAF but in this case looks to be set up for P.A. duties. Was this at the Herberton Gymkhana? I'm planning a trip through the Atherton Tableland area in August - hopefully shooting some then and now comparisons. This was a major training area for Australian forces prior to heading off to New Guinea and the Pacific Islands. |
Keith the caption on the photo is
"WONDECLA, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA. 1944-07-17. 25 POUNDER SHORT GUNS AND JEEPS OF THE 6TH DIVISION, LINED UP READY TO MOVE OFF FOR THE MARCH PAST. " Is there any books, etc on the WW2 RAAF vehicles that were used? I will PM you about the DMV book. Cheers Cliff :) |
