trying to restore mk 1 british u/c back to original, at present it is a
dummy tank, page 61 making tracks.any one any info on front armour. thanks

Mel,

You are in luck! Firstly, you have a Universal Carrier. Secondly, that in all of the dimensions that you need are availible.

Our old pal Rob Groves has all of this data digitized and at his fingertips. He was planning to offer these plates for sale, and might be able to help you out. I got a MkI armour plate from Rob ( the bent one in front of the crew commander) and am very happy with it.

Also, about a year ago some fellow in France had gone to enormous troubles to very carefully measure his disassembled hull, and he provided these drawings for the world to see. Sadly, my computer filing system is as bad as my paper filing system - and I cannot find that web site. I know that the data is out there ( as Agent Mulder says ), but another from this forum will have to provide it.

Mel is your carrier the actual one that is featured on p61 of Making Tracks? Or is it like it? Do you have the Serial Numbers etc? Or can you send photos? Would love to see them as I have a Canadian MkI*

nigel, carrier is identical to one in making tracks, at present dummy tank armour has been removed, will let you have serial number.trying to make contact with rob groves,but no luck with e-mail ? mel

Thanks for that Mel. It was just a dummy tank wasn't it? Used presumably to train tankies up. The gun didn't fire did it? I'd be interested in how the turret frame was put onto the carrier if you have that.

mk1- dummy tank

nigel,
not much info on dummy turret, only it was made of canvas
and the gun was held in position by supports,on the front armour,
one is still there,found a serial number on top edge of armour in
front of steering wheel, 4427, found date in several places 1943.
