steering box sector shaft
1 Attachment(s)
Hi All. Dismantled my steering box today and found the sector shaft gear (I guess you call it a gear, pulley, ?) that runs along the worm gear is banged up. The worm gear is in good shape. Has anyone out there replaced just this gear? Wondered if this gear would be the same in types of sector shafts, 1/2 ton, 1 ton etc. Wondered if I should be looking for another old Ford steering box and switch gears. :)

Here is a closeup. Should say, this is for a f15a.

I'd suspect that it is an off the shelf gear
Given the logic behind CMPs I would suspect that gear was an off the shelf "1941" part. Looks familiar from the Hot Rod Fords my brother and I worked on as kids. Check out some of the Hot Rod Ford parts sources on the web. Also would check the parts list the part number in my F15A list looks like a standard Ford part number.

Looks like measurement time to me.

Looks like measurement time to me. Few key measurements like overall length, shaft diameter if those seem to match should be worth trying. Failing that who has the F15 parts book, as I say my F15A shows two part numbers C81WF-3775 as being used to serial number #5579. But now for the big question did they use the same box on the two wheel drive?

Hi Phil and Dirk.
Thanks for the info. I know of a couple old grain trucks in the area that still have the steering boxes on them, I hope. Being left hand drive, some parts may interchange. I have an old Ford civilian parts catalogue that shows the numbers your page shows, but without the 'F'. Hopefulley, the roller on the sector shaft is the same. There are some cmps around, but never got away to look at them before the snow came. Will have to wait till spring. :( Cleaned out the steering column and found these(photo). They are about 1 inch long. Not sure if they would have been with the truck originally. No name on them. Thanks again. :) |

used an air gun to blow out the column. Heard something hit the wall behind the cloud of dust. It was a nice find.
