Thunder over Michigan air show
 

Hi everyone

Well the event was back at the begining of August but I was going through a bunch of my pictures and figured I should post some up. From people I talked to and from other online forums the WW2 battle was hailed as the best part.

Now the battle itself was kind of a "dog/ pony show" but as you will see it was somthing to behold. I will hopefully have some video of this somtime soon.

The Carrier is owned by a fine fellow from Windsor.

Anyway enjoy the pictures that I posted.

Another shot of Bob's carrier. He has done a lot of work on this little machine over the years. It was also fun getting it across the border in the US.

Your's trully always smilling while hanging on to the back. I never fell "off" of the UC but I did fall "into" it. Bob made a sudden stop and kicked it into reverse. I ended up falling backwords onto the kit locker. The end result was that about 50 people got a good laugh (including me) :yappy:

Heading off into the field. The neat thing was that the show bought out the crops so we were able to play around a bit and not worry about what happend to the crops. It was quite somthing driving the UC with the Soy Beans up to the front armour.

Here is a really good shot my boss took of a German scanning the sky for Jabos. With a sepia tone it really does look authentic doesn't it.

This is why he was scanning the sky. There were a pair of P-47's and a solitary P-51. These planes were going about 350mhp and were coming down rather low.

At our saftey briefing in the morning we were told they would be flying at about 300 feet and would do the low passes at no less then 100 feet. One of the spectators that I know saw one of the P-47's comming in below the top of the static display B-52 tail. I don't know what the height is of the tail but it sure isn't 100 feet. Very low indeed.

And the P-51

I did find it very unnerving when the planes would be turning towards us and starting their run in. I knew they had no ammunition but it sure put some fear into me. I don't no how anyone who had the comming at them for real coudl have ever have taken it. It really gave me a heck of a lot of respect for those that were there for real and endured this on a daily basis.

Finaly here is our little carrier in the midst of the battle. Thats our very own Tim Sullivan on the Bren taking some shots at one of the planes.

Love the pics of the Jug and P51! They certainly look low.

What fun to be able to run wild through the Soy crop too. Adds another level of authenticity to the situation. The carrier looks great.

You know they are low when as they go over you can feel the "breeze". Also all of the whip antennas on the US stuff would bend over then snap back. Very very low and fast.

Fabulous shots of the a/c Jordan! Nothing like having air superiority when Jerry is lurking nearby!. Were the Brenguns brought down from Canada? If so, were the receivers cut?

All the firearms came from our US friends. We only brought the Carrier, Willys MB over and our personal gear.


Here is a shot our camp. We had two original CDN bell tents. We also parked the Carrier up on the grass so it was part of our display.
