Diamond T 981 with with 40ton Rogers Trailer
 

Does anyone know of any books covering the Diamond T and Rogers trailer. I recently picked up a 1/35th scale model of the beast and am looking for reference on the subject. Any ideas where to look is appreciated. Also any info. on Canadian units that used the vehicle would be helpful.

Thanks for your responce. The 981 has the Pickup style box behind the cab. This box held up to 7 tons ballast. The vehicle code in W.A. Gregg's book Vol 1 is 80649-C and is on page 149.

The Rogers trailer on page 150 and vehicle code 90M-F-TREC.
Known as the Transporter, Recovery, 40Ton, (trailer)

The manuals you outlined look similar with the only difference being the fifth wheel mount behind the cab instead of the box.

Hello Sean

The Allied and Axis monographs had at least one issue with Diamond T coverage. There is also a back issue of 'Wheels and Tracks' with coverage.

There is also a couple of books published in the UK about the 40-ton transporter, there's one here

I went to Holland to visit Hanno in 2000; after a few days the two of us drove to Beltring for the millenium show. Somewhere in Belgium, we passed, on the highway, one of these magnificent beasts heading the same way we were. He caught up to us at Dunkirk. He was a German fellow, and drove all the way there and back at 25 mph!

Beautiful vehicle, though....

A couple of years ago, Urich was selling one with an early Sherman on the trailer... complete package for something like $70K USD. All were more or less complete but needing restoration. THAT would have been a haul! [so-to-speak] :)

I recently have got the loan of a British manual in a series on recovery vehicles, titled: series A: recovery vehicles by types, part V; Tank transporters- 40 - ton.
This July 1946 published manual in 60 pages covers the Diamond T 980 & 981 Tractor and the Trailer, 40-ton 24 wheeled British Mk 1 & II, the 'Rogers' Trailer and semi-trasiler 40 tons..
Withinthe next month or so I'll do a repro of this manual, so if anyone is interrested, you can contact me. However one should not wait for my 'Groucho Publishing' website to show the new title: presently that features some 650 titles, whilst my catalogue has more than 1200 entries! Priorities keep me from updating that site, but one day I will!
