What a great find!

Looks like most of the armor plating is still in place, but who tried to make it look like a German Tank?

Dirk Leegwater here in Holland has a very nice restored Lloyd. He is a forum member so maybe he will be able to help.

good luck.

Alex

If thats an original Panzer 11 Tank Turret sat on top, you have something to sell to help fund the restoration.

Mr. mrdodge11,

That is a very nice find! I am interested to learn who added the Panzerkampfwagen turret and why? Army training aid? Film prop?

Except for some web pages like here on MLU, there is not a lot of information available on the internet. The best source of information I have found are the two articles in Wheels & Tracks magazine by David Fletcher:

- ISSUE No. 48 (July 1994): The Loyd Carrier - Profile of the Loyd-designed Tracked Carriers.
- ISSUE No. 49 (October 1994): Loyd Carrier Variants -SP gun mounts and other developments.

Good luck and keep us posted on the progress of restoration!

Regards,
Hanno

ok i'll try to give some explication about this véhicle.

1) the turret com from one german bunker of the süd wall.More exactly from port la nouvelle.

http://sudwall.superforum.fr/viewtopic.forum?t=70

the hold owner bring this turret in 1950 and put on this loyd carrier just for fun.
Now effectivly i want to sell this turret for restaured my carrier.

2) one winch was put in front of this véhicle but normaly is not original.

3) for have this véhicle i must accept to buy on dodge D 60 S/DD T 110 L 13
And i know nothing about this véhicle

Hi,

So it was the former owner who converted it into a "German tank". These turrets are not to common these days and it is nice to hear the story behind it. The pzkfw 2 in the Saumur museum has the later style turret with the extra armor at the front, so your turret appears to be from an older pzkfw2, maybe a C or D. (the Lynx has a turret which differs even more).

I guess all of us are very interested in more picture of the Lloyd and also of the Dodge. The Dodge D60S also seems like a nice project, but I do hope there is a nose section included in the sale??? Apart from that the Doge seems in quite good condition.

Alex

Pascal,

So it was a toy?!? Great story, also as to where the turret came from.

If you want to sell the turret, contact Michael Gibb through his website www.sdkfz.com. I'm sure he's interested - or could find you the right person who is. If you play it right you should be able to raise some considerable funds for the restoration of your Loyd Carrier....

Good luck!
Hanno

Bon Jour Pascal

Alex Blair in Canada, from MLU, possibly may have a manual for Loyd Carrier for you to buy.

You can send a private message to him from the pm button in his profile.

Today i bring my carrier whis my truck in the former owner house. It was verry dificult because the carrier was not parck on a flat land.

Alex van de Wetering 21-09-06 00:27

Pascal,

Good to see that you have recovered the Lloyd!

I was looking at the roadwheels on this Lloyd, does anyone know if these are late production wheels? The Lloyd(s) on the Chillwell pictures show the same wheels, but all the other Lloyds I have seen, show the universal carrier-type wheels.

Chillwell lloyds

Alex

mrdodge11 21-09-06 06:31

Thanks for the information about the roadwheels I will see.
do you think that is possible to change the rubber , or if nobody is able to make that.

carrier full track loyd

Hi,
Yes it can be done and new tyres fitted, see my previous post, any one who retyres tyres can do it, you will just have to talk them into it and get them interested, numbers will always work, try to get a few more people interested if you have the numbers you have more bargain power,
Good luck
Regards,
Ron.

It is Loyd Carrier, not Lloyd. They were designed and (initially) built by Vivian Loyd. :teach:

Alex van de Wetering 21-09-06 11:48

Hanno,

Thanks for setting that straight. I really didn't know.

Any feedback about the roadwheels?

Alex

No, other than that I have seen them on Loyd Carriers before, and as the occasional single replacement on Universal Carriers.

Maybe Nigel Watson can divulge the story behind these wheels?

Yes, the Carrier, Tracked, Towing, No.1, was meant for towing the 6-pdr anti-tank gun and carrying its crew. Before the 6-pdr came in use, it was meant for towing the 2-pdr gun. It was also used to tow the 4.2-inch mortar in a 10-cwt trailer. The Canadian Army used it in that role in Italy.

Who can tell use more about the census number T 256742?

H.

P.S.: see my G503 album some pictures of a 10-cwt Mortar Trailer I took at Beltring this year.
