Man trapped in waist-deep chocolate for 2 hours
Updated Sat. Aug. 19 2006 11:30 AM ET

Associated Press

It might sound like a chocoholic's dream, but stepping into a vat of viscous chocolate became a two-hour nightmare for a 21-year-old man Friday morning. Darmin Garcia, an employee of a company that supplies chocolate ingredients, said he was pushing the chocolate down into the vat at Debelis Corp. because it was stuck. But it became loose and he slid into the hopper.

"It was in my hair, in my ears, my mouth, everywhere," said Garcia, who has worked at the company for two years. "I felt like I weighed 900 pounds. I couldn't move."

The chocolate was 110 degrees, hotter than a hot tub, said Capt. Greg Sinnen of the Kenosha Fire Department.

Co-workers, police and firefighters tried to free the man but couldn't get him loose until the chocolate was thinned out with cocoa butter.

"It was pretty thick. It was virtually like quicksand," said police Capt. Randy Berner.

Garcia was treated for minor injuries and released.

After more than two hours in the chocolate, does he still have a taste for it?

"Not so much anymore," Garcia said.

Reminds me of the old joke about the Irish/Scottish Grandpa/Uncle who drowned in a vat at the Whiskey Distillery. Despite rescue attempts by 3/6/12 rescue wokers, he fought them all off to stay in the vat.

Just sent an email to Arnott's Biscuits about Tim Tam's in the US. If You had, had a location in your profile, I'd have even been able to get them to contact your Safeway's directly.

For those whom are interested, This comes from the Arnotts biscuits website.

Tim Tam

Tim Tam is Australia’s favourite chocolate biscuit. Around 35 million packs are sold each year - that's nearly 400 million biscuits. There are seven delicious varieties of Tim Tam biscuits: Original, Tim Tam Chewy Caramel, Tim Tam Double Coat, Tim Tam Dark, Tim Tam Black Forest Fantasy, Tim Tam Creamy Truffle Temptation and Tim Tam Latte. And of course, Tim Tam Balls, which were launched in September 2005!

Tim Tam biscuits first hit supermarket shelves in 1964. They were named after a horse that won the Kentucky Derby in 1958. A member of the Arnott family, Ross Arnott, attended the race day and decided ‘Tim Tam’ was the perfect name for his new biscuit. The chocolate used to make Tim Tam biscuits has been specially developed by Arnott’s to give a slightly caramel taste. The cream flavour is a delicate mixture of vanilla, butter and chocolate that complements the biscuit base and the chocolate. It’s this unique cream which sets Tim Tam apart from any other chocolate biscuit.

For those of us in England, Tim Tams will be available in selected Sainsburys stores from 10th April, according to a leaflet I picked up today. They will be doing an Australian wine and food promotion apparantly.

No connection with Sainsburys or any other supermarket :)
