wanted

If there are more, I am looking for one too.

Seems they are wanted in the Netherlands

I believe that the Profiles Series is the most elusive book from the Gregg collection.
I am fortunate enough to have one of 1000 original leather bound and numbered copies produced.
It was by fluke that I contacted Bill Greggs widow who still resides in the Rockwood Ontario area to inquire about this book.
I explained that I was an avid collector / buff etc and that I would like to find a copy. She was very pleasant and told me she would ask her sons if any more were around.
I had just about given up when many months later I received a call from her. One of her sons had found an extra copy, the last one they had and that I was welcome to it.
I think she wanted $75 for it if I recall which I gladly paid!

chris vickery 09-08-06 17:15

Further to my last...
I know there are many copies of the original vehicle books at CFB Shilo kitshop, not worthy of a reprint.
I am wondering however, how much interest there would be in having a short run reprint done on the Profile Series???
It seems to be the one everyone is missing.
Of course one would have to contact the original owner and printer for permission...
I would volunteer to investigate this possibilty if there was enough interest and/ or possible financial backing.
I live only about 10 minutes away from the Gregg estate...

oztankboy 09-08-06 17:29

Well I certainly put my hand up for a coppy of it!

Phil... :salute:

I know we have a couple residents experts regarding the printing of manuals, books pictures etc and the laws pertaining to copyrights etc.
Can someone perhaps enlighten me on these things???
The reason I ask is that this particular book was published over 25 years ago (approx) on behalf of a business (Canadian Military Historical Society) which no longer exists.
I am wondering about rights to reprint this book and if the copyright has perhaps expired???

Please go over and ask...

And while you're there, please say hello to Andrew, one of his sons. I was in touch with him a few years ago as he is a film maker and was trying to get a documentary film made about CMPs.

Geoff, do you have a YOTB video copy left? If so, please mail to Chris so he can hand it over to the family on behalf of all of us here on MLU.

Greetings Hanno
I have put a liason with Mrs gragg on my `to do`list for next week.
I have never met her sons and have only spoken with her a couple times but it sure doesn`t hurt to ask. Whats the worst thing she can say, no?

Like we say in Holland: "you have a 'no', but could get a 'yes'". Seems Mrs. Gregg already knows you have a genuine interest. Good luck!

Hi there

I think we could find homes for a few copies in New Zealand as well

If it at all possible for this fine volume to be reprinted is there any chance to see "Blueprint for Victory" and the second book in the Series (The name of which escapes me right now) :bang:
can also be reprinted  :note:

Oh I bet with the growing interest in CMP trucks in Australia in the last few years would garrentee a few sales to say the least here too!

Why reprint when Gregg's books are still available? Go to RCA Kit Shop .

Insofar as the profile series are concerned. Gregg used photos and drawings in the public domain but any layout, design and original text would be protected by copyright. This copyright can be granted on a one-time, non-exclusive, basis if the executor of Gregg's estate permits it.

Well Gentlemen, I have made initial contact with the Gregg family and had a very pleasant conversation with Mrs Gregg.
She was most intrigued by the fact that the hobby has grown to the size it is today.
I explained that collectors now cover the globe with a common interest in preserving our heritage.
She is going to investigate the possibility of allowing a reprint to be done and will get back to me.
I will keep my fingers crossed and will be patiently waiting...

mike mckinley 16-08-06 04:55

chris, that is great news!! thank you for your efforts and i'll keep my fingers crossed

Well done Chris! :note:

Lets hope all goes well with it!

grant fincher 16-08-06 11:59

Well done! I'm sure there will be quite a few forward orders placed for a reprinted edition as opposed to poor poto copies and scanned images. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

chris vickery 16-08-06 15:02

My intentions are, if all goes well, to either A, contact the original printer and have him re-run the book if he still has the plates or B, investigate having it copied using new printing technology.
Of course this all hinges on getting permission from the Gregg family and also on the minimum print run and finances.

If this comes to fruition I will ask for preorders to get an idea on copies.

Pre-Order

Hi Chris
You might as well start the pre-order list now. My hand is up.

Gregg Vol 2

As mentioned here:

http://www.mapleleafup.org/forums/sh...1513#post61513

I have copy # 929 sent to me by Dr Gregg after a telecon I had with him before he passed on, many years ago. Let me know how best I can assist. It is in pristine condition as it should be given its especial status to me and has never been out of its binding.

Rob Beale 21-11-06 07:40

Add me to the list too, please.

I think it is important for the hobby that this series, and others like Mike Cecil's Aussie Profiles, and Jeff Plowman's Kiwi Armour continue to be available to new (and old) collectors. The wealth of information helps spread the message of the massive effort the old Commonwealth (Dominions) put in during WW2.

Even the old AFV Profiles are worthwhile, though the photos are not as clear as more modern printing allows.

chris vickery 21-11-06 15:07

As an update to this posting, I have not thus far received an answer to my query with the Gregg family regarding permission to undertake a reprint.
I will make another phone call as a reminder as it has been a couple months now, perhaps out of sight, out of mind for Mrs. Gregg.
Will keep you fellows posted...
