Hmmmmmmmmm.....
Hi Brad..
Dosen't sound like timing at all but almost seems like the track could be binding...Try loosening off the track a whole lot and if that cures it re-tighten a bit... Something is binding in forward gear on the turns...points to track as an easy first starting point.. If that dosen't fix it disconect your rear brakes and try again...If that removes the problem ,readjust your brakes and hook them back up.. |
I had the same problem first time I drove my carrier out of the shop. Reverse worked great, and while it would go forward, it would almost stall out on a turn. A read of the operators manual fixed it; I was starting out in 4th and then shifting into third. The shift pattern was opposite of a CMP, which is what I was used to.
I'm sure this isn't your problem, but I thought I would share it. A properly running carrier should be able to start in first gear and spin 180 degrees from a standstill. Looks impressive, but is hard on the roadwheels. |
hAVE YOU TRIED TO ADJUST THE BRAKE ADJUSTMENT ON THE BACK OF THE BACKING PLATE?
|
If it was a matter of timing then it would do it in reverse as well.
Did you have the new shoes arced to match the drums? I have seen vehicles where the brakes would grab violently on application because the arc was incorrect. Otherwise the only other problems you could have is using the wrong gear, or perhaps a problem in the rear differential? One of the guys here (derk D) had a problem where he could not get in to first and second gear. He was having to take off in third and fourth all the time. Sure sounds like what you have as well. |
Easy Button....

Sounds simple once you find the problem..Trouble shooting virtually have been making the old brain bucket smoke and it sounds too easy to be missed gears..but that would sure do it.. It's lots of fun and gets a lot of us involved and passes on what we learn to everyone... Good thing there is no "Easy Button " to push..that would take all the fun out of it..Glad you found the problem.. |
Talked to Derk and the problem with his was that that shift tower bar (that upside down U shaped thing) was not on the right spline on the shifter. He undid the nut and moved it one spline and it worked great.
While I am glad I was able to help you through this, I really was hoping it was just that you were trying to take off in 4th like I did. That way I wasn't the only one to pull that boo-boo. But since you didn't then I guess I am. |
