Before we start to restore a new CMP treasure, one of the latest
job on the Fox: a spare wheel tyre plus carrier.

Hi Brian,

After a "secret" deal with George, on the picture the new CMP treasure.
Hopefully room enough in the container. After the restoring of 3 armoured cars,
nice to start again with a "normal" CMP. I like the video from Jeff Caldwell,
looking to the Ford F60H drive in a Toronto proving ground.

PS. I just put a new pair of tracks on my carrier, its running great, I will place in the future some pictures on the forum.

hallo Dirk,

I have found about 1000 links of track, in condition from rusty till very rusty, I hope I can make 4 tracks out of it, the rest is useless.
I have loosened up 2 tracks and now I have mounted them on my carrier and with driving over had survice, there has come free a lot of rust between the pins and the links, I think total length of the tracks will become 166 links.

Your Fox really looks supurb, but I like your new project even better! I have always had a crush for the F60H (and I still need to finish the scale model). It would be nice if you could fit a Holmes Wrecker set to the rear!

F60H Wrecker
 

Hi Alex,

Do you have anymore detailed pictures/drawings of the Holmes wrecker body? The thing I really like to know is the part between the cab and the "twin booms".
As you can see in Bart Vanderveen's Wheels and Tracks magazine and the famous "bible" there is a tarp there.
I like to know what is underneath the tarp.
(see picture from Bart's "the observers fighting vehicles directory")

Any help would be great for our "winter project" .

Hi Stefan,

I am afraid I do not have to much detailed info on the part between the cab and the wrecker equipment. Bart VanderVeen's bible also has a picture of a Ford F60H cab 13 Wrecker and this vehicle is without the tarp. If you don't have that image, I can scan it for you. When I started my modeling project, I also received a side shot of an Indian (?) cab 13 wrecker from David Hayward, which should be on the forum somewhere.
The pictures available seem to show some sort of flatbed with lockers on it. But, that's about it. My guess is there was also some space for the welding set and compressor, just like on the Diamond T wrecker.

Maybe David has found something since.....

Stefan, the soon to be Daddie. Look in this photo directly above the left rear corner of the 12 cab roof. That yellow piece is a Holmes Wrecker. Too bad you will miss the "Blue".

Converting to a comfortable camper is not a bad idea I’ve been using my C60S BEAUTY as a camper for good many years (10+) and it is really nice to be able to get out the rain and sleep dry in a real bed when everybody else is in tents. Add running water, shower, toilet, even air conditioning and you have a nice rig for taking your self of family to events. The few people who have ridden in the back say it is not to bad over good road but cross country forget it.

Real neat find, look forward to seeing the restoration process with what ever body you decided to go with.

Holmes wrecker body
 

Hi Alex,

Do you have any more pics/drawings of the holmes wrecker body?
The only one I know of is the one from Bart Vanderveen.
Would it be close to the one fitted on the 4x4 ?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Does anybody know where the data plates with serial numbers etc. go on a '40 cab 11 Ford?

sorry for the late reaction.

A few weeks ago I had a chat with Dirk about the available information on the F60H, when I was at LWD-parts for the first time.
Sadly I don't have too much info. The only picture I have ever seen of the cab 11 Ford F60H Wrecker is the one from Bart VanderVeen's collection. All other F60H wrecker info I have found is of the cab13. Although there are a lot of symmilarities between both, the section between the rear body and cabin seems to be different. Dirk pointed out that the wrecking gear on the cab11 version is of the early type, without the "legs" on the side, something I hadn't realized before.

If you ask me the body of the C60S 4x4 wrecker is a lot different. The rear corners on the 4x4 body are angled and also the angle of the body-sides are at a different angle. There is however a 4x4 wrecker that seems to have the exact same body as the F60H. The Wheels and Tracks article on CMP wreckers designates this as a "type 4" wrecker. (The pictures are below). One of them even looks like a vehicle in Dutch service.

I will copy/scan all the info I have of the F60H wrecker for you. Don't get too excited because you have probably seen most (if not all) of the info before. I hope to get a chance to visit Schoorl this weekend. If I do I will take the info with me.

The best breakdown and detail of the W45 Holmes wrecker can be found in the Diamond "T" parts list..
And the 969A Maintenance manual..There is a wealth of information on it including operating instructions..

Yes indeed, I read them yesterday in Dirk's "library" very helpful information, the only thing that is kind of a mystery is the body of the F60H (where the holmes sits in).

Too bad Bart vanderveen passed away and isn't able to answer my questions, I am sure he got an answer.
And the worst thing is that "mr Marshall Museum" made a mess of Barts wealth of information.

You are fortunate to have the library..The next time you are in Canada get Churcher and Lobster man to bring you to Ottawa and you can poke around in My library..They both have been here and are holding out on you..A trip to the new war museum would be the icing on the cake..I spent 6-8 hours in there last week and it is fabulous..

Yes, I agree. The next picture did attract my attention. It is also from the Wheels and Tracks article. The body between the Cab and wrecker equipment on this Chev is not identical, but does look similar to the F60H body. Maybe more pics of this 1942 Chev could shed some light on the inside of the F60H body???

Steven found the right answer in our "Library" by him self, the early Cab 11 Fords have not used
Chassis Record Plates on the dash (see the picture) but a serial number in the frame.
The serial number of our F-60H is 1G-3389F.

I don't know what to make of this seller. To his credit, he states clearly that he's selling a reproduction. Then he states that he's not in the business of printing reproductions to sell, but demands that the buyer sign an agreement to not reproduce or permit others to reproduce from his (reproduction) product. If he has been selling the manual for 2 months, currently it seems to be on a 10 day listing, either it is overpriced or he has in fact got a quantity of the reproductions. Hmmmm....
