SCC2 , or SCC15 vehicle paint
 

Greetings , am coming up empty handed so far & perhaps am not looking in the right place . Need to base paint a C15A . Will likely spray for best results and coverage . How much does one need ? I have no idea . Would like to have a tad bit of paint left over , for touch ups and such over time .

More importantly , where to get SCC2 or , as an alternate , SCC15 ?

most of the guys i know take a chip of the original paint if some can be found), and have it analysed at a paint distributors. from there they work out a formula to give the shade you require. having said that, someone on this forum will likely have said formula written down and can share it with you. there are a gazillion shades of olive drab...just line up a dozen gerry cans and you'll see what i mean. :cheers: mike

When I bought my C15 it was painted a desert sand colour. I posted a request for paint info and Steve Kantner sent me a paint swatch with his SCC#2. I took it down to the local paint store where they analyzed it and came up with a perfect match. I was extremely pleased with the result. My truck now stands out amid the sea of Olive Drab here in Texas. If you want, I'll mail Steve's swatch to you so you may copy the colour also. Yes Derek , I think that would be a huge help . Last thing I think I want is a forest green , yellowy olive or OD colour . I would like to get it right the first time .

Doesn't sound too complicated . You estimate 2 gallons for a C15 two coat all over repaint ? Maybe 3 to be safe ? How much did you use on your CMP ? Did you paint your cab interior the same shade ??? Your thoughts ?

John, When I bought Jim's carrier I got some spare parts in that was NOS vision port covers in CC#2 , Painted 60 years ago still in the orginal paper wrapping, I took them to a custom paint place
(they make paint for classic cars Hot rods ect.....)
They matched it dead on. As you saw at Reading We painted Barrys carrier this color as well as mine I think it looks nice and
stands out from the Yank M.V.'s out there.

I used 1 1/2 gallons for one coat over a coat of primer. I guess you could probably make it go further, depending on how fast you move the sprayer. Haven't painted the inside of the cab yet as it hasn't been restored yet, and it's in a passable green. It's not O.D., but more like a forest green. I don't know if it's original or not, but it'll do until I get all the bits and pieces to finish the cab.

Nein my chromatically-challenged American friend. SCC#2 is much lighter and more like dog shite in colour.

my vehicle was closer to "british" than yours. and that was early war UPS colors, the darker dale jeret color didnt come out till NASCAR came along. :cheers:

Go to http://www.geocities.com/cmpvehicles/paint.html and look up the link in which Mike Starmer describes how to mix up 100% accurate S.C.C.2 using commonly available model paints. Then take your home made sample to a paint supplier and have it mixed in the type of paint you prefer.

- Far left: SCC 2 (brown) Basic colour 1941-45 use.
- 2nd left: SCC1A (very dark brown) Disruptive colour 1942-45 use.
- 3rd left: BSC 381 Light Stone 61 Basic colour Desert 1940-43.
- Far right: Looks brownish on screen, could be SCC 15 Olive Drab or US olive Drab - NOT green enough to be Khaki Green 3.
