Good picture I thought most them were much larger,
I guess it all depends what is being used for. Thanks Patrick |
Thanks Mike!
It's a Penguin. H. |
Covered armoured snowmobile...
Quote:
The armoured snowmobile was originally open topped, two man machine.. Our winters were too damned cold ,so I believe this picture shows the early shop made enclosure over the machine to protect the occupants from wind and cold..but still an armoured snowmobile.... This must have worked because later development of this enclosure ,which removed the armour and added a much larger cabin, that held 6-8 men and you could stand and walk around in ,which obviously you couldn't do in the one pictured, became know as the "Penquin"...Mark,ll,lll...... There was no Mark l Penquin... The Mark 1 was the armoured snow mobile.... See the difference here.... http://www.museebombardier.com/en/co...e1939_1945.htm See you at CC5... |
Different machines
The closed cab machine above (Penguin) is entirely different than an armoured snowmobile. It has a plywood body. The true armoured snowmobile has similar running gear, otherwise is quite different. There was a Penguin (No.8 from excercise 'Musk-ox) for sale in Quebec about 20 years ago. I don't know where it ended up and I can post some pictures if interested.

NOt entirely different..
...Hi Bruce, the armoured top of the armoured snomo was removed from the top of the hull up. Then replaced with a wood and aluminum top . The top of the hull down was unchanged so it was still 50-60% armoured snomo. The Hull of my MKII Penguin is unquestionably armoured and even retains the front armoured glacis plate/fenders.
