Fox armoured car questions
1 Attachment(s)
I'm looking for any information, similar things in other vehicles or best guesses on the following items in a Canadian Fox armoured car:
1. The brass catching tray for the main guns (Browning 30 cal. and a 50 cal. machine guns) has folding sheet metal 'trays' that appear to hing on a central channel anchored fore and aft. The 'trays' fold upwards and downwards to allow the driver to get into his seat. How do to trays lock in the horizontal position to hold the weight of the spent brass? 2. The guns are fired by remote cables (similar to bicycle brake cables) attached to pistol grips under the gun mount. These pistol gips look similar to ones used on other British AFV's. Do the triggers push straight in, or do they pivot around a pin at the top? A sketch to illustrate these question is attached below. |
Hi Bruce,
I do not have an answer to your questions (nice drawings!!!) but how do you manage to crawl into the drivers seat with the "gooseneck" attached? The drivers must have been very small!! Cheers, Stefan |
Driver
The driver must turn the turret, then pivot either the gunner's seat or the commander's seat out of the way. Of course lifting the brass catching trays would make more room too. Now that I have the insides of the turret back together, I can confirm there isn't a lot of room!!

Bruce, given how you're a rather largish chap, I'm wondering if you'll have to get your daughter to be the designated driver. :rolleyes Of course, that would allow you to lord over the vehicle from the Commander's hatch. I drive my ferret a lot and rarely get to Command it. Something I prefer.
Good to meet you 2.5 weeks ago. |

Hi there!
I posted a pic some time back trying to ID just such a item. Wanted to know what type of AFV it came out of. I guessed it was British but it had no markings on it. But to your Q it slides in. Also has a safety catch on the left side. See the pic. If you would like to see what it is like internaly let me know and i'll pull it appart and take a pic for you. Phil... :salute: |
