Carrier question ??
 

In order to get a better perspective on the real vehicle,I went out about six weeks ago ,bought and built the Tamiya kit of a Mark 2 carrier.The markings are from the 3rd Inf.Div,right out of the box.My question is what is the item,in the lower middle of the front,just right of the Bridge class sign.I put it on but the instructions don't say what it is !! :confused :salute:

Do you mean part # A30. If so it is the access point for the engine cranking rod. The box art shows it well. The knob on the end unscrews to reveal a hole.

Do you mean a crank as in crank starting a Model T Ford?? :confused

Kind of like a model T, except the shaft of the hand crank is about 6 feet long. On a mk1 carrier the shaft stows just outside of the back armour, with the crank handle reversed so it doesn't protrude beyond the edge of the hull. I can't recall where it stows on a mk2, since I only deal with the older models of UC

Most WWII vehicles still had hand cranks
 

The jeep has a single piece crank and it stores against the inside of the back of the tub behind the rear folding seat.

The T16 stored the 5' extension shaft on the outside of the rear hull under the tool bins and the hand crank part is on the front armor just in front of the driver.

My MkII stows the crank on the rear deck just behind the rear compartment armour with crank reversed and laid flat on the rear deck. Welsh stowage design carrier anyway.
