Candian AA gunlaying radar (GL)
 

I am seeking personal experiences from anyone who worked on or operated the WW II AA Gunlaying Radar GL III(c) later designated as AA radar No. 3 Mk 1. This would include persons with first hand knowledge of Research Enterprises Ltd. the factory in Leaside, Toronto where this radar was manufactured. Apart from a towing vehicle,have any of these sets survived ?

Can I suggest you do a search under Radar Trailer where you will find a thread started by Tony Smith which has some information on this equipment.

There is some info about the G.L. Mk III Radar in AHQ Report 73, paras 118 to 126.

John McGillivray Yes, that AHQ Report gives a nice concise summary of the more detailed histories written by W.E.Phillips...J de N. Kennedy. et al. I am glad you posted the URL. on this forum.

A friend of mine worked on the equipment. He says:

"Yes, it was known to me as the APF; Accurate Position Finder. Also it's other radar, the ZPI, Zone Position Indicator. I took my first courses on radar on these two sets and later worked on them at 202 Major Base WKSP, RCEME in Montreal."

If you are in Ottawa, i am sure the Canadian War Museum has the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Instructions on the equipment.
