The Gun Regisrty is all but Toast!

According to the WInnipeg Sun today (thanks Karmen!):

TORIES TO CHANGE GUN LIST

TORONTO -- The Conservative government plans move on a key election promise to amend the gun registry by exempting rifle and shotgun owners from the program and waiving a $60 fee paid by more than 1.5 million Canadians to renew firearms registrations.

CTV News reported yesterday that the government would limit the registry to handguns and automatic weapons.

Damn! after giving mine away to avoid dealing with the registry...

I know of at least one guy

that is waiting for the ground to thaw so he can start digging. Sure hope he remembers where he buried them!

Cheers, Dave :smoker:

p.s. I did jump through all the registry hoops and it was a joke, my permit renewal was a sticker to put over the bar code on my card!

Hey Geoff,

I don't mean to rub salt into any wounds but what exactly did you get rid of? Just curious,

Cheers, Dave :smoker:

Nothing serious, Dave, but a nice scoped deluxe Ruger 10-22 and a 12-ga riot gun (both of which I used to use on the farm, regularly). I just didn't want to deal with the federal morons (I also had 2 old, beat-up revolvers submitted for destruction - they weren't worth much).

CTV News, to the best of my knowledge, is not the legal authority in Canada. Do yourself a favour and wait for Parliament (or at the very least, the Minister of Publlic Sfety) to make an official announcement. This is especially important for holders of "grandfathered" firearms whose licences are up for renewal. Say what you want about the Firearms programme but the law is the law until changed by Parliament. As much as the burearcrats may want (or not want) the legislation to continue it isn't their call. Until the Law changes you could lose your gandfathered privileges if your licence expires and you haven't started the renewal process.
