I've seen the book " Universal carrier" by David fletcher , which covers the British carriers, but has there ever been one written about the Australian LP1 ,LP2 and variants. cheers David...

David, Mike Cecil wrote Australian Military Equipment Profile Volume 2 Local Pattern Carriers 1939-1945. Contents: MG Carrier LP1 - MG Carrier LP2 &2A - MG Carrier LP3 Pilot Model - 2PDR Anti-tank Carrier - 3-inch Mortar Carrier - Truck, Tracked, 1-ton GS. I have not read it myself, and understand it is out of print so you will have to look for a 2nd hand copy.

I've got a copy of Mike Cecil's book with your carrier on the front cover, but I never realised till now that I was looking at a WA Carrier.

Some friends and I have restored a WA carrier for the Army Museum here in Perth and I have wondered occasionally about the allocation of serial numbers for the 100 or so that were produced in WA.

The carrier we have here is Serial # 5174 and on the upper outside hull plate (behind the driver I think) is stamped "WA 98". This is also stamped on top of the front right tie down point. Assuming (maybe incorrectly) that this signifies the 98th carrier of the 100 (?) produced in WA, the block of numbers issued to WA fior these vehicles would range from 5076 - 5176. An unusual range of numbers.

Does yours have a WA number stamped in the same places ?

I have just had a look at the carrier and I can not find any markings as you have described.
