Ford Sidevalve V8 wanted

Hi all. I am looking for a complete wartime Ford V8 engine for installation into a Cab 13 CMP in Australia.

If possible I would prefer an overhauled (or close to it) unit to go straight into the vehicle.

The vehicle had originally a 24 stud head and is a F15A built Sept 1942.

Has anyone got any ideas or contacts?

Thanks

Unfortunately, when you find a Ford Blitz in Australia, it often seems the engine has been pinched by a hotrodder sometime back in the 70's. When you do find an engine, chances are it's all rusted up or has a cracked block. Then, and only then when you have found a good block, you start the frustrating process of finding an engine builder who speaks fluent sidevalve. Good luck!:salute:

Mike's Sidevalve Supply in Adelaide will supply a fully rebuilt exchange flathead V8 for around $2750, plus freight, or they can rebuild yours if you wish to retain a particular engine number. This is for a basic, stock engine. If you want any performance work done, the price only goes up from there.

Tony, sounds like the same story as here in Canada. Most flatties are either pinched or seized right up. Usually real hard to find an original runner. The Aus dollar is real close to ours as far as exchange goes. Interesting to see that the price for a rebuilt flattie is around the same as here, somewhere between $2500 and $3000 CAD. And, you are quite right, as it is hard to find someone who speaks the lingo of V8 Ford flatheads. Most rebuilders look at you like you've two heads...

I have some somewhere in a shed unles Mr Smith ( Tony ) filled his trailer up when he left as I was occupied elsewhere, I must be thick as a brick to let him leave my place without a full inspection before he left.

It's a ripper what you can get up to when the host's as busy as a Blue-Arsed fly, but ten minutes in a hot tin shed had me stonkered, too knackered to tea-leaf a thing. Next time, she'll be apple's!

Tony you were running around like a cut snake trying to fill your trailer up, whilst Max wasn't looking. We're going to have to call Max strawberry jam when it comes to parting with his treasures. Does any know why?

we heard this one the other day whilst talking to my uncles, they were reminiscing of the past , there was an old chap who used to go around muttering strawberry jam when he was upset iwth someone, when asked what he was saying his reply was that, that fellow up there that was annoying him shoudn't be allowed to eat strawberry jam as he is such a tight a..e he wouldn't want to pass the seeds from the straberry jam. Don't you think Max is like this with his treasures?

Another place you might try looking is some of your local marinas. Back in the day a manufacturer by the name of Grew used Flatheads in their boats. In the '70's my brother owned a Grew "Lapstraker" which was powered by a Ford flathead. I don't know if Grew was just a local manufacturer or are world wide, but that might be a source of motors. Hope this helps!

Max has engines

I would bet all Maxes engines in the the old shed are suitable to recondition. Non of Maxes engines would have siezed as they are all so flogged out trhat there would be substantial air gap between all metal to metal surfaces. This will make them very easy to dissasemble with nothing at all stuck.:dh:
