C60X capabilites?

So, I have a US M813A1 that I bought as a utility vehicle for moving around my Ferret or Dingo either in the bed or on a trailer at some point. But now, I'm starting to think about a C60X and possibly a 6wheel7ton light recovery trailer. Dirk Leegwater in Holland has a set like this.

What are the general capabilities of the C60X in terms of towing and cargo capacity? The rating is 3 tons. I assume that's similar to US army practice of X is off road, X doubled is on road capacity, and x Tripled is towing capacity? Would a C60X be able to handle the 6Wheel7 Ton trailer reliably? I'm assuming it has the air brakes needed to stop the thing.

Of course, at this point I know very little about the C60X other than the basic configuration. Would I be better off sticking with something more modern?

Hi Ryan, I remember your enquiry on the CMP mailing list. The C60X's nominal payload is 3 tons, but I think on surfaced roads it will be able to carry more. (For example, the American GMC CCKW-353 was rated as a 2.5-ton truck cross country truck. For use on highways, it was rated as a 5-ton truck.) As for towing: the comparable C60L, with full load, had a recommended maximum gross laden trailer weight of 6 tons for normal roads, 4 tons for hilly roads and 3 tons cross country. Maybe the best comparison for its capabilities is a GMC CCKW-353 2.5-ton truck, as the C60X has the same 270 cu.in engine. I'd stick to that M813A1 5-Ton 6x6 truck for haulage, and steal the show with the armoured car!

HTH,
Hanno

C60X

Hi Ryan:

As a CMP owner and driver I'd stick with the modern vehicle as Hanno has suggested. My C60X has complicated vacuum assisted brakes that need frequent servicing to keep in order and she is a thirsty old girl who tops out at 40 mph.

I drove a F60 LAAT from Chicago to Ottawa (four days) back in 1993 and I'll never repeat the adventure... had a blast but my back is now 12 years older and, as a Gunner for 30 years, I need to protect what is left of my hearing!

I still enjoy short runs in the local area but will go with a float for long moves of my CMPs both to save the old girls from wear and tear and for the sake of my back/hearing.

 Mike
