Ram Tank photos
 

Here is a picture of a ram tank that I just received.

The sign in the background is partialy visiable. What I can read is "Beach/ Ranges/ ?...ators/ ?......ing"

ANyone recognize the background, could it be close to where that other Ram photo was taken. The one Im talking about is the one with the thrown track.

I am looking for additional photos of the Ram, in all of its variants, in order to update www.RamTank.ca

All photos are gratefully received although I am especially interested in photos that show the CT number or the DND Registration number.

Clive, I have about 40 pics of Ram tanks in my library, most of which you are very likely familiar with, so rather than take up a lot of Jefe's RAM I'll give you a brief desccription of some of my pics. If any of them are of interest to you, I'll post them.

I believe these are previously unpublished pics of Canadian Ram tanks taken in 1943. No hint as to location but could CACNTC be Canadian Armoured Corps National training Centre?

Nice pics - can you read the DND Numbers ? One looks like 41-1-36xx - can not quite get the resolution to read it clearly...

A8 I suspect is the Training School these are from...will look that up and reply further...

To answer two questions:

1. - what you are reading as CACNTC, is actually C.A.C.(A)T.C. = Canadian Armoured Corps (Active) Training Centre.

2. - Serial 1209 - A8 Canadian Armoured Corps Training Centre - authorized effective 15 February 1941, disbanded effective 1 September 1942 - localization: Camp Borden, Ontario. A8 Canadian Armoured Corps Training Centre, A9 Canadian Armoured Corps Training Centre (Serial 1210), and the Canadian Armoured Corps Training Group (Serial 561), were amalgamated to form Serial 1285 - A33 Canadian Armoured Corps Training Establishment, effective 1 September 1942 - localization: Camp Borden, Ontario. A33 Canadian Armoured Corps Training Establishment, was reorganized and redesignated The Royal Canadian Armoured Corps School, effective 1 October 1946 - localization: Camp Borden, Ontario.

I have been searching for a number of years for listings of those tracked vehicles with Canadian serial numbers as opposed to the UK T numbers - have you had any luck ?

One can certainly see the future Kangaroo in one of the side shots, can't one?

This is a photo a friend gave me - her father posing with a Ram at Debert 1942 I believe. He was with the BC Regt (4th Arnd Div) en route to UK. Could also qualify for "in the background" Chev cab 12

Check www.ramtank.ca, I don't think these have been seen before.

Sadly it seems there are no indications of location, date, unit etc. But no doubt someone will identify the turret marking on CT-40100 (which incidentally, was the last Ram II built with sponson doors).

Most likely severe weather conditions led to these incidents.

Hanno, the dagger in the centre of the inverted triangle indicates that the tank in the photo belongs to "A" Squadron of one of the three army tank battalions of the 2nd Canadian Army Tank Brigade, with the photo itself having been taken in either Camp Borden or at the Meaford Tank Range sometime during their training, from the time of the brigade’s formation (January 1942) and their departure for the UK, in the spring of 1943.

This same 'dagger' was worn as a sleeve badge by units of the brigade in 1942/1943, much like the 'Ram' sleeve badge worn by units of the 1st Canadian Army Tank Brigade, in 1941/1942.

First RAM ever
 

My apologies if this pic has been previously posted: Here's the first ever Ram Cruiser tank produced at the Montreal Locomotive works which rolled out almost 72 years ago on June 30, 1941.

Interesting, I had seen the picture before, but not the caption indicating it was of the first Ram. Here it is on it's official roll-out at MLW on 30 June 1941, being inspected by CD Howe and Col.Ralston. It's pretty amazing, from a twinkle in DND's eye to the first prototype in a little under 10 months!
