Didi we ever discuss this AWM picture:
"Puckapunyal, Vic. 1940-01. Changing the guard by members of 2/6th Infantry Battalion at the training camp. Note the Marmon Harrington (c.1940 model) 4x4 half ton trucks lined up on the right. (Donor N. Templeton) " These look like the the F/M-H trucks ordered by the NEI, but the scene is supposed to be 1940. Nuyt |

The Aussies just spelt it rong! Harrington!
caption: "TEL-EL-KEBIR, EGYPT. 1941-11. PRIVATES WALLAM AND CLEELAND OF THE 1ST AUSTRALIAN ADVANCED ORDNANCE WORKSHOPS ENGAGED ON RECONDITIONING A MARMON HARRINGTON AUXILIARY BOX. " |
The Austraian Army had a lot of Ford/MH guntractors and other type trucks so those Pictured are not necessarily the NEI ones.
I also would not place 100% faith in the photo captions either as mistakes are made and quite often as well. cheers Cliff :salute: EDIT. I blew the pic up as much as I can and I think they are the 1939 barrel nosed Fords. So the date may be correct. |
