Hamilton Lancaster possibly partakes in 60th Aniversary end of WW2 in Britain

According to an article in Fly Past aviation magazine, a request has been put to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton if their Lancaster can take part in the 60th Aniversary Celebrations of the end of WW2, with the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster. The request according to this article is being considered. It would be a great sight to see, two Lancasters sharing the same area of sky. Hopefully it comes about.

Ted, if you go to the CWH museum website, you will note that this is not going to happen!
Apparently the RAF had put in a formal request to have the Lanc appear in Britain. The CWH group put forward their proposition as far as cost went and it was up to the RAF to come up with funding by a certain date, which they did not meet.
It is unfortunate but reality I suppose.

Probably too, the risks of two Atlantic crossings. Even ignoring them, the wear from same on those old engines is pretty scary. All the same, it would have been nice to see a couple of them in the air at one time... :)

Yes, scary indeed, the thought of "our" Lanc making two trans-oceanic flights.

Just for info for those of you in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), the CWH Lanc will be doing an overflight in the Brampton, Ontario area on 11 Jun 05.

This is the date for the Annual Review for 758 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Cadets. The Commanding Officer is a very good friend of mine and he advises that the overflight will cost the Squadron $4000.00 CDN. That's for a flight from Hamilton (about 35 miles away) and return. Could you imagine what the asking price would be for an Atlantic hop?!!!!!

And drafty Too!!

Around 10 to 15 years back, the Lanc flew into Air Canada base at Dorval where employees did some touch ups voluntarily on her.My fellow air force drummer,Joe,who worked there, got picked to go up on a test flight for the repairs. He enjoyed it but stated that there were a lot of areas where air seeped in,especially around the turrets.Imagine this over the Atlantic at 17,000 ft for up to 16 hours each way.
