Want to know what is this instrument panel

Can anyone tell me what this instrument panel would have been used on.

That looks vaguely like a panel I saw piles of at Princess Auto Winnipeg in the 1970’s. I think at the time they were supposed to have come from radial engine equipped Sherman tanks.

The warning about hitting the gas on start up was to prevent a misfire that could apparently shear the crankshaft.

Been a very long time though so I am not sure.

David

PS: let us know for sure if you find out.

It's for M3A3 Stuart, Stuart V in Commonwealth terms.

David: Those panels at Princess Auto were for the twin diesel engine Shermans. When the army pulled tha packs they also included the control panels. Princess used to sell the engines, but the control panels languished in the yard. I restored one of the panels back inthe 80s and eventually gave it to the Jr Ranks mess at the Fort Garry Horse, who operated these tanks until the early 70s.

Thanks for that info, Rob.

Here’s the ad for those engines from the 1964 Princess auto catalogue.

M3a2(76)w?

Rob, would they have been the M3A2(76)W that the Canadians purchased just post-WW2? Thanks, Mike.: EDIT: should be M4A2(76)W ... yea, I typed in a tank that never existed! Ooops.

rob love 08-10-25 16:25

Yes, those are the ones.

tankbarrell 08-10-25 19:24

M4A2 rather than M3A2.

rob love 08-10-25 22:21

Roger that , it was the post war Shermans.
I can't imagine a 76mm on a Stuart would do much aside from destroying one tank (the Stuart of course).

Mike Cecil 09-10-25 07:07

Ooops ... M4A2(76)W!

Yes, my error in not re-reading my post.

Mike
