10 cwt 4.2 Mortar trailer
2 Attachment(s)
Hello.
I am looking to see if anybody else has a WW2 10cwt 4.2 inch (British) mortar trailer. I know Jim Fraser had one at one point. Within Canada we used the Willy's MBT 1/4 ton trailer converted to 10 cwt. Overseas the British used their 10cwt trailer. Both of these trailers used the same rack and bracket system inside. There was an ammo carrier as well as the 4.2 inch Mortar carrier. These would have been pulled behind a Universal Carrier. O am also wondering if any of the original racks are still floating about? Thanks Eric Mine is the Mortar carrier. It was one of 14 converted and was used out of Base Borden in WW2. |
Interesting to read about the Canadians modifying 1/4-ton trailers into mortar trailers, I did not know that.
I have never seen a mortar trailer with the brackets inside. I think they were all reused as regular trailers once struck off strength. Would be great to see one reconstructed! Please check if the British 10-cwt trailer reference thread has any relevant info for you. |
