Chrysler Corpn. LC427-C-PASS-1
2 Attachment(s)
This is the Car, Light, Sedan 4x2 Chrysler Corporation LC427-C-PASS-1 from the Canadian Army Overseas Vehicle Data Book.
The Data Book refers to Parts list WM-3814 which has an extensive list with Model Codes (see 2nd pic). But which vehicle model is depicted in the Data Book? Which models was the Canadian Army supplied with? Did they get them all the models shown in the parts list? Attachment 124499 Attachment 124500 |

1941 Dodge D19 Deluxe sedan

This 1941 Dodge Series D19 Deluxe sedan is marked up with census number CM4292138. It is on display at Valiant Air Command Inc. Warbird Museum, Titusville, Florida. I don't think there is a way of telling whether this is an original Canadian Army car or a civilian one painted up as such.

Dodge

Pics of a 1941 Dodge in RAAF service, this car is actually a Plymouth fitted with a fake Dodge grill, badges and trim, this was a cheap option that typically Chrysler preferred to use for the smaller markets. This car would be RHD and fitted with a TJ Richards body. Compared to other wartime staff car variants , very few of these were made and I think only two have survived , the RAAF seemed to be the main user although a few may have been sold to civilian hire car operators .

That car appears to be the Plymouth based version of a Dodge but it does have Dodge like features ! |

Which is why I bought that manual, should be an interesting read! |

I think not, the Chrysler 4x2 Light Car was not used much it seems. Most numerous were the cars by Ford and then Chevrolet. I do not know the pricing of the Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler cars, but seeing they are essentially the same I reckon the Canadian government ordered the lowest priced ones. Now, who has contract details for the Car, Light, Sedan 4x2? |

Sp11
A theory: The military 1941 De Soto ute I had , had the typical Aust. army requirement , where the nomenclature was stenciled on the firewall, I recall in that case, the model was SP11 . Reading the list Hanno uploaded ,I see that the 'S' was possibly meaning 'Special' . These Plymouth based army utes had heavier rear springs fitted than the standard sedans, and possibly other chassis mods. Maybe the 'S' covered those mods.

A Car, Heavy, Sedan. Is this a Buick?
Census number is CM4233912. "Canadian Army Overseas Photo Holland. Two members of HQ Canadian Forces in the Netherlands were married on 12 Oct. in the R.C. Chapel of the Kleine Seminary, Apeldoorn. Photo shows the Staff Car in which the happy couple drove away, surrounded by members of the CWAC Brass Band and H.Q. personnel. The bride is Pte. Flora Lizotte (CWAC), Winnipeg; the groom, Pte. Elden Simonson, Vancouver." Attachment 126521 Source: https://beeldbankwo2.nl/nl/beelden/d...f-4904f20ab85f |

No. It appears to be a Dodge D23c Special Delux.

I knew it was a Chrysler product. The Dodge and Plymouth are virtually the same in those years.

Chrysler built Light Car
Thanks Paul and Jordan. I still need to learn how to ID the various Chrysler cars from that era - and some say today's cars all look the same :)
They are not Light Cars in my European eyes either. Now merged the thread with this one on the Car, Light, LC427-C-PASS-1. |

Hanno or anyone
Who knows where our Dodge from the Aqaba to Normandy trip went? Is it still alive in UK or elsewhere? |

Thank you Hanno
It is nice to know one of your vehicles is being used and looked after. The 1942 Chevrolet Utility I took from Istanbul to Normandy the following event has now been chopped and hotrodded with the mechanicals taken to the dump. So sad to see them go that way. Lang |

Ouch! :(
A good smack on the head would be in order :fry: |
I have seen some "woody" C11ADF's that received a similar treatment....bright paintwork, perfect condition.....loved and stored indoors, but for us MV enthusiasts it hurts.
Than again, I don't know what's worse.....there are also plenty of examples of vehicles that were on the show circuit in the 80's and 90's....regulars at Normandy anniversaries.....that end up in a farm yard outdoors for years, only to be broken up for parts or scrapped in the end! Lang, I think I did see your Chev photograph van in France with it's new, owner a couple of months ago. Still looking nice. |
