Rifle Stowage Brackets on M151A2
 

Can anyone shed some light on whether the in-service M151A2s used the US M-16 type rifle stowage bracket mounted to the dashboard on the passenger side? Seems likely to me that these would have been replaced with the rubberized clip for the C1.

The installation of rifle brackets was not an approved modification on the M151A2. I did find the SMG brackets installed on a couple of the 30 M151A2s I bought back in the day, but it was entirely random. I can't recall finding any of the rifle brackets installed. Nor had I ever seen the US style brackets on any Cdn M151A2.



I did see one M151A2 with the swing arm GPMG mount on it when I was in Gagetown, however the CFTO on these specifically mentioned the M151A2 was not suitable for them.


They all had the Cdn Ansul 5 pound fire extinguisher bracket however.

If there is a rifle rack in a Canadian 1974 Pattern, it would not be for the C7. Canada didn't issue them until starting in 1982. The Iltis was in service starting in 1984. If there ever was a rifle rack, it would be a rubber boot on the floor and a diamond spring clip on the extreme right of the passenger's dash. The roll cage frame fills exactly that same real estate, so unless your M151A2 is decked out for the short remainder of 1974, all of 1975, and a short part of 1976, you don't need to worry.
