M6 hst

Thanks David for the pics on this other rare beast.
This is the M6 38-ton high speed tractor which is the larger brother of the M4 18-ton high speed tractor.
The M6 was used to tow the 240mm howitzer and the 8" gun in the 3rd and 61st Super Heavy Regiments during WW2.

So, I think there are no pictures of the M4 high speed tractor used by the British.

Dennis

M6 38 ton HST

Regarding the M6 38 ton High Speed Tractor, I have a March 1958 Ruddington Catalogue listing 26 vehicles for sale.

It would be interesting to know how many were originaly supplied.

Not related to this thread but there were also 70 Oxford Carriers and 11 Centaur Bulldozers included in this sale.

Census #s

We have the known Census Numbers when new BUT there could have been some more post-1944 and also some allocated to the British on the Continent from US inventories.

One was displayed in the S.H.A.E.F. expo Antwerpen, 1945.

No census numbers or markings, other than the allied white star to be seen, sadly.

Johan Boekestijn sent me some photos of the liberation of Borculo and Beltrum in the Netherlands showing M6 HSTs in use with the British Army. Who can identify the markings?

Marco shared the second picture in this thread captioned: "Souvenir of 241 Super Heavy Battery, 61st Super Heavy Regiment, R.A., Groenlo, Holland, May 1945".
