Lower engine cover screws

Hello to you all and Happy New Year, I hope everyone is safe and well.

Can anyone tell me the screw thread on the lower engine cover screws (CTL 3596)? Is it 1/4" BSF?

LWD have a full set for sale, but unfortunately they're asking more than I can afford. So a modern equivalent will have to do.

Good news; I have just completed the registration process for my Carrier and now have registration plates attached, so will soon be out on public roads! I've also made and fitted an exhaust system so I don't annoy the neighbors too much. All I need to do now is adjust the brake linkages as the foot brake doesn't actually stop the Carrier.

Also need to extend the exhaust downpipe as the length they currently are was matched from a photo of an 'Airborne' modified UK mortar Carrier, but my Canadian Carrier has welded brackets on the axle (for road springs?) which the exhaust dumps water into.

Cheers,

Tom

Tom, the lower cover screws are 3/8 BSF. The spring pads are there as a result of the fact that carrier axles were originally truck axles. I hope you aren't creating trouble for yourself with those sub calibre exhausts? The tail pipes should come down behind the axle?

Hi Lynn,

Thanks for the info on the engine cover screws. I'll have a look for some 3/8" BSF thumb screws. If I can't find any standard bolts will have to do for now.

Re the exhaust, what do you mean by sub-calibre? I've used 38mm pipe throughout, is that too small?

Cheers,

Tom

If it fits the various cast elbows on the exhaust system it shouldn't be

I've used 38mm from the cast elbows in the floor, through the whole system. The picture does make it look smaller than that though.
