M101CDN Leaf Springs
I recently purchased a M101CDN military trailer in very good shape. I've already had the entire trailer sandblasted and primed. It needs a bit of metalwork in only 3 places to repair some rust through, but otherwise, the metal is surprisingly solid.
Now, the leaf springs looked absolutely rusted, with large flakes of metal peeling. However, after the sandblasting and priming, they actually look pretty solid now. Having said that, I'm still thinking of replacing them. Question: Does anyone know if the leaf springs from the M416 will fit the M101CDN? If not, does anyone know if any for sale for the CDN? Also, do you think the spring shackles, and the shocks will also fit between the two? FYI.. I did several forum searches, but couldn't navigate the process very well and couldn't find the specific info. Many thanks, David |
Canadian Trailers - Nomenclature
Nomenclature is important, sounds like you have a do you have a Canadian M101CDN2 ¼ ton Trailer and not a M101 ¾ ton Trailer.

That's a fair question. In doing my research before purchasing the trailer, I've seen the trend where folks mixed them up. The ID Plate definitely identifies this as the M101CDN2. |
The USGI name is M416. Squared fenders and large D-ring handles on the corners are the giveaway.
There is a FB group for M416 owners and converters. These guys like adding jerry can holders, tool boxes, roof racks and fold-out camping tents on their trailers. |
PM sent :)

While the fenders are either the same or almost the same as the US M416, the solid handles along with the square top re-inforcement are the giveaways that it is a Canadian M101CDN2. Add to that the Iltis wheels and the light civilian hubs and bearings, and you quickly find that ordering M416 parts will only get you so far. Towards the end of the service life of the M100 trailers, the supply system started sending us M416 parts (axles and fenders come to mind). Both required some adapting to use. The 416 axle was a little wider than the M100 if I recall correctly. |
Super Dave has parts for the Iltis trailer !
Nice trailer. What is that rear bumper ? |
