Identifying Ford GPW marking

Hello,

I've been reading up this forum for a while although I never posted. I've been working every weekend on my Ford GPW 1944 for the past 5 years and although I post updates on the G503.com website, I was wondering if I'd have better luck identifying my markings over here.

I believe it was used by the US Army as I couldn't find any canadian numbers on it. I also don't have the original front bumper or rear bumperettes that could've given us a bit more info! Jeep was bought from Nova Scotia and from what I know, spent the last 65-ish years in Nova Scotia before I bought it and had it shipped to Quebec.

Sorry if its not the right spot to post this, wasn't too sure.

Day Tues? C47 Tues? Located in the windshield frame

I also have a few tire pressure markings, but that's common it seems.

Hello Etienne

Sand the outside windshield down on each side as well as under the doorway.

You might find markings there if it was used by the Canadians.

If you provide me your serial number I can look on my list.

We bought used GPW's from the US during the war. So even if you found US markings, it would not rule out use by the CDN's.

Looks like blue paint underneath?

Hi Eric,

Correct, I had blue and white house paint over the jeep.

Here's the serial number and hood numbers.

GPW-231738 23 October 1944

Hoodnumber : 20579837

Body number : 139709

Thanks for the help!

Under the door openings or over the rear wheels ?

Hello Etienne

I do not see anything pertaining to this GPW in my data base.

Correction: The Canadian Army Registration numbers were usually over the rear wheel well.

The unit would be painted on the sides of the hood.

If used overseas the War Department number would have ben painted on the hood.

CDN as well as US used Jeeps have been found in NS.

If it is missing any of the CDN markings there is a very good probability it was not used by the Canadians.

Canadians very quickly over painted the US markings when it entered CDN service.

Tks

Eric

Yeah I can see faintly some US number which helped me get the hood number with my range for that month but no CND markings that I can see!
