"Sign" ID?
 

Hi

From another Forum, the question was asked as to the significance of the "sign" behind the soldier.

I had thought it might be a crate, shipping container, or even tailgate off a small vehicle. Doesn't look like a "sign".

Soldier is a Lorne Scott and this may be Holland 1945.

Any thoughts?

The reigning thought is that it's part of the crate for a Cooker Triplex or all the writing means:

It's a crate lid for cooking equipment of some kind.

J2 is the Vocabulary of Army Ordnance Stores section for portable cooking equipment, JA73 is the prefix and first two digits of the stores code.

It's post-1939 equipment, as it's later than anything in this doc:

So it would be J2/JA.73nn followed by the description.
