Chev 15CWT in Australia

Hi all,
I have for sale this, very complete, Chev 15CWT C13.
Would have to be one of the most complete, undamaged blitzes I have seen around. It sill has the original Tail Gate, doors, engine cover, even has the original jack and jack handle in the tool box! I have had the engine running and it runs as smooth as. Would be a very easy restoration, or maybe don't repaint it, just clear it. The rear tray is in amazing condition, with barely a mark on it, not dents at all. There is just some rust in the Support rails under the tray. Extremely rare to find in such good condition. PM me for further info and photos. Price is AU$6750.

Beautiful truck............... rare condition.

Questions for the experts.

Was this truck shipped fully assembled from Canada or Holden assembled?

ID tag looks slightly different......did Holden assembled trucks have a different ID tag or did they use tags from OShawa/Regina........

Numbers are also printed from the front instead of rear embossing......

Strange to see WO 8 on the tag....... unless ?????????

Just trying to learn.

Cheers

C15A answers

Shipped as chassis components, cab completely built by GM-H as was the rear body. WO = War Office and 8 is the designation for a C15A with a locally designed and built GS body. The cab was fitted with an AALMG mount which bolted to the left side of the cab which you can see in the photo. The M in the chassis serial denotes Melbourne factory.

What a great looking vehicle!

Classic example of a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) truck:

CKD was restricted to destinations where the manufacturers had proper assembly plants. CKD entailed the supply of parts which could not - or not economically - be produced locally, supplemented by parts which could. Besides packing methods for trucks that had to be reassembled on arrival, the CKD-pack method was also used but this entailed parts and components which had not been assembled before and then dismantled for shipment. They comprised the necessary numbers of subassemblies and parts for a given quantity of chassis which would be assembled in much the same way as it was done in the Canadian factory.

Hi Hanno,
Yes, it is one of those types of vehicles that you can't decide whether to sell or not. It is just so complete and so few dents etc. Realistically though, I will never get the time to restore, so it would better to see someone actually restore it.
