Sweet Heart Notes

I always like finding these personal touches when opening WW2 surplus parts. Both of these notes originated in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Maybe I can get a date? Even a double-date! .... Brian

Nice. When they put that there 70 odd years ago with no greater motive than to make someone smile they probably never envisioned that it would be more than one person and well into the next century before it happened.
Good luck with the date!

Brian,
Write them back and see what happens? Be careful about any attempts of meeting for a date though. Could be awkward! Let us know what happens!
Regards,Derk

What an awesome find! Perhaps it is possible to trace the notes back to the writers or their families here in Oshawa.

Norma 168gr ammunition

For a while the issue sniper rifle ammunition was Swedish Norma 168gr HPBTM. Each box of 20 has a little card with the packer's name. I remember some that 'Irene' packed. I told that story to a colleague is was a sniper in 3RCR(?) and his wife's name is Irene. Yes, he remembered it well!

Kolten or anyone else is welcome to research these names, particularly if you live in the Oshawa area for better access to info. If the labels are not legible in the thumbnails I can clarify.

Brian & Kolten

I alerted the staff at the Oshawa Historical Society about this thread as they are always interested in WW2 homefront matters. I intend to do a driveby on both addresses which are in easy walking distance of the (then location) of the GM plant. Brian, I did the math so you are on your own re the dating part. :D

I doubt that either of their fathers will be there toting a shotgun :D

Brian.

You should contact your local media about these notes. This close to Remembrance Day, it is the kind of 'Feel Good Mystery Story' with an historic local connection, they would be delighted to run. A land based version of 'A Letter in a Bottle' and it would very likely get picked up in national news feeds, if not International.

For the time of a phone call, I'd say go for it!

David
