Ws22 aerial Stay + Bag
|
Hmm... I don't think the stays are original.
Stayplate and insulators yes, but the cord looks wrong and has wooden adjusters instead of the metal type, the steel rings don't appear to be present, and I'd expect the cord to be whipped where it's tied off to the insulators. Bag looks nice and clean, though. :) Still a bargain at the current price, of course, and it may be a genuine "war economy" variation of the stay assembly. Chris. |
The stays look like the ones off the 20 ft Canadian mast for the 19 set but the bag has a 1941 date.

I had the bid on it but he pulled it before the bids were up.
With that 1941 date it should have been for the 11 set. |
It's "Bags, Aerial Gear, Mk.II", ZA.0437, I think, and the 1940 VAOS says "for use with various wireless sets". This was made of webbing, and replaced the Mk.I (specified for W.S.1 stations 1A & 1B) which was made of "No.2 tent duck with special fastener and web carrying strap".
I suspect the Mk.1 wore out very quickly in service. Chris. |
