OMVA.CA Plans

What are the plans for the OMVA.CA website?

I'd like do see it utilized as a general information website that requires very little maintenance. It would list general organization info, contact info, an email link and a downloadable membership application.

...and a link to MLU of course.

Anyone? I think Peter is holding the domain for OMVA.

Thank you for your query regarding the OMVA domain and website.
At this time, ownership of said domain does reside with the OMVA.
Currently, there is no intention of creating or resurrecting the website per se.
There have been numerous attempts over the years to maintain our website which have inevitably ended up in failure. For a website to be informative and practical requires the dedication of an individual or individuals to maintain, create and update the data contained therein, otherwise it is dull, uninformative and out of date. Then there is the issue of domain ownership and associated costs.
It is always a struggle to collect information, photos and other interesting items to post. Just check with our newsletter Editor to understand how much work goes into producing 3 newsletters per year...

We still maintain CMP Magazine as our primary source of information, old skool style.
That said, we do owe it to our Members to live in a modern world as well of IM, Facebook and other online media forums.
I have created an OMVA Facebook group page which Members and public are encouraged to visit, join and post.
Alternately we have the MLU tab which I would like to see expanded and encourage Members to frequent and use as well.

A general website doesn't take that much work.

I am offering to host the website on my server (I own theammosource.com) at no cost and my web master will design a general website saying what the OMVA is, a few pictures, and a download for the membership application.

The domain will still belong to the OMVA and there will be no extra costs above the domain registration fees that are already being paid.

Anyway, that's my offer. If we're looking to grow then this will help.

Hi Chris,

I wasn't able to find a OMVA FB group to join, could you post the group name as it is registered so i can sign up.

Thanks!

Jason, please check back in, I have changed the initial FB group settings and perhaps this is why individuals are having issues with access.
It should be open to all now.

What is the FB page called? OMVA, or written in full? I couldn't find it either.

Frankly speaking, which is what you get from me pretty much all of the time, I would take Ryan Harriman's offer considering he has a proven track record as a business person along with his family.

He has an interest in our hobby and is a collector himself and is standing in front of us offering his help.

I have known Ryan for a few years now and find him to be an honourable and very fair person who knows right from wrong. I would vouch for him as someone we in the MV community should accept a helping hand from.

Online payment of membership dues etc would be so convenient for even the worst of us luddites. I know people who have been turned away at shows from paying because their membership had another month of so still to run.

The OMVA Membership year has been changed to reflect a Jan to Dec annual dues payment. Implementation does of course have challenges but I do not have knowledge of dues being refused due to a month or even a few outstanding.
Currently, as CMP 73 or issue #2 for 2015 being issued, this means that any renewal taken between now and December will be assessed $10 for the remainder of 2015 plus $30 for 2016.
This in the hopes of streamlining the renewal process to make dues a yearly paid thing with all Members expiration dates at the same time.
As far as the offer for the OMVA web forum I shall not discuss this avenue here but will respond back once consideration and discussion has been entered into with our Executive Members.

It's a Club. Not a business.
Like minded enthusiasts who share a passion for the collecting, preservation of historic military vehicles and the like.
Pretty simple. No grand parades, little government. An avenue to keep individuals together and informed. A couple social outings we call swap meets. Maybe a show.
Nothing more, nothing less.
If you want complicated it's the wrong place for you.
