Unidentified Old Motor ??? Engine Spotting
2 Attachment(s)
Hello All,
How are you at old engine identification? I have been offered the chance to take away an old motor. It looks like the front section of its old chassis was made into a frame for a stationary motor. It used to be hooked up to a water pump on a farm. My apologies for the quality of the two photographs. It looks like there is a dog for a crank start on the front of the motor and a hole going from the front frame and radiator support. Any ideas? I can visit the pump for some better photographs if these ones are too bad to be of any help. There is no visible name written on the radiator or the engine block. Then again there could be if I knew where to look! Kind Regards Lionel |
Vanguard
Looks like an old Vanguard Triumph engine or something like that, similar to the grey fergy tractor engine but the starter motor is on the other side.

old motor
I,ll second that, looks vanguard to me.

Third that . Standard vanguard . Same as TEA 20 pretty sure both petrol and diesel used the same block . Not a high revver but tough as nails

Hello Everyone,
Thank you for the replies and for the identification of the motor. It looks like I have a new toy to play with - well once I go and retrieve it and learn how to get it running again :) Kind Regards Lionel |
Well built but not indestructible.
When I was a pup our family doctor had one of the old sloped back Guardsvans and my father did the maintenance for him for years.
Eventually it was towed to our place because there was obviously something wrong and dad dropped the sump to take a look. Laying in the sump were some serious sized chunks of metal. I think a piston had broken up. I have an idea they were a wet sleeve engine. David |
bits
currently an engine rebuild kit including crankshaft for that motor is around $800. oo includes a set of pistons and sleeves, fits from TEA 20 to TR 4a.
