American Civil War: "Gus" the Fighting Chaplain

Two of my ancestors on my Father's side served in the American Civil War, one: Frederick Augustus Heuring as a Chaplain with the 25th Indiana Infantry regiment and his brother George Gottlieb Heuring with Company G, 1st Regiment of the Indiana Cavalry as a Blacksmith/Farrier. See more here:

Frederick was briefly put under arrest by General Ulysses S. Grant for chiding the general about his intemperate use of alcohol, other than that he survived the war and was discharged from the GAR on August 21st, 1864 in Atlanta, Georgia.
George sustained a slight wound in the right arm during the battle at Pine Bluff, Arkansas in October 1863 and was discharged at Indianapolis on Sept. 12, 1864 Both survived the war and lived into their 70's or 80's.

CHIMO!
