A Really Bad Day

I realize this is an apolitical Forum, but I saw this a few moments ago and I thought it a bit amusing.

With total respect to any Russian members we may have, when I lived in Peru, 1976-1978, my office windows overlooked the Pan American Highway. This article reminds me of that era.

I was, at the time, the National Parts Manager for Volvo del Peru and as we had for a number of years the monopoly on the manufacture of trucks over 3 tons, virtually all of the trucks of that size or larger were Volvos, including those used by the Armed Forces of Peru.

The armoured vehicles of the Armed Forces of Peru were, for the most part during that era supplied by the then Soviet Union as Peru was basically a Communist Military Dictatorship and had fairly close ties with the Soviet Union.

Anyway, at least several times a month, I could watch the mechanical breakdown of various Soviet vehicles on the Pan American Highway as they tried to make their way from one base to another or to participate in a parade in the Capital of Lima. The tow trucks that moved them off the Highway were almost always Volvos.

Just a bit of humour after 2 glasses of nice wine.

Bill
