Ferret Transfer Case/Gear Box dip sticks
 

Greetings All,

We've finished the rebuild of our Museum's Ferret's Transfer Case/Gear Box (with no left over bits) and it should work !! That being said, during the tear-down and re-assembly, we noticed the dip-sticks for the Transfer Case and Gear Box have no seals on their cap-ends and sit rather loosely in their respective locations.

Does any one know what the seals look look like and of a source for them?

I noticed that when we did our gearbox.

I have never see a seal per say.

I am suspecting that there really is not any leakage there.

I would also caution you that once you have sealed it, where will the pressure from the heated internals and fluids vent through? Have you not just made a problem that did not exist? :teach:

You cant articulate a Ferret enough for the fluids to spill out I would suggest.

I honestly think you are chasing ghosts mate. perhaps it is the mariner in you that likes things to be sealed? :giveup

Is there mention of a seal in the parts book? If there isn't (save me from going downstairs please) then that is your answer.

Hi Robin,

You are a gold-mine of information as always. I've checked the parts manual and didn't find anything pertaining to the dip-sticks (no mention of them at all). That being said - what you've stated makes sense. Our reasons for asking were that they both seemed to sit in their respective receptacles very loosely.

I'm working on a Ferret here at the Oshawa museum. Neither of the dipsticks has seals on it. They are quite snug in their bores, but loose enough to act as a vent. Maybe vibration over the years has worn the bores a bit?
