Lp2 Track Question

Are the tracks left and right handed ? . On one set of tracks most have the lead plugs on one side as they should! but every now and then , out of the 174 there is about four links the other way around . I'm I missing something here ? Dale

Hi Dale , all lead plugged / riveted track is made the same, so on one side the plug is on the inside and on the other the plug is on the outside. English and Canadian track that is riveted you just put the joiner pin so washer and cotter pin are all on the outside for ease of dismantling. This is why you may have noticed 3 or 4 links the wrong way round on your lead plugged, is that someone probably thought it was easier to get the lead out when the plug was on the outside, but as a rule the plugs on that side of the carrier should all be on the inside. The only differences that appear to have happened between NZ and Aussie carriers ,is that on NZ one's we lead with the "Toe" in the middle of the track and you guys are the other way round, as a point of difference, and this apparently was from the war years, Cheers.

So just to follow on from your great answer Andrew, I assume that with the lead plugs that are on the wrong side (in the few links) that those links have been modified in some way because the pin can only come out the lead plug side, and the hole in the other end is too small for the standard lead plug.(it's only there to allow the (small dia.) track pin punch, to punch the pin out. There is no groove for the lead plug to be expanded into.

You can see in this photo of my spare track for Corowa The link marking are ! some stamped 39 , 41 the others have different marking , maybe the markers of the links milled the other side .

I wonder if this was a special joiner link?, because as it seems you can not turn that link around, otherwise it will not interlock properly. So you hammered the pin out from the outside of the carrier, does that makes sense?
I pretty sure I have seen NOS track numbered 1-21 in original lengths of 21 links
