Looking for Ferret gear-box/transfer case Bus Bar Spring
'Morning All,
We've started working on our Ferret's gear-box/transfer-case and during the removal of the Bus-Bar Spring we discovered that it had snapped about 3/4" from one end of it. Would anyone know of a source for a new one or have one in serviceable condition they could part with? Cheers, Chris Preston, Victoria, BC, Canada |
Daimler Dingo transmission similarities with Ferret Trans.
All,
Does anyone know if the Daimler Dingo transmission is similar to a Daimler Ferret transmission? Someone has contacted me asking if the bus-bar spring from the Dingo would be a suitable replacement for the Ferret transmission bus-bar spring. Cheers, Chris Preston |
Robin Craig in Ontario tells about how he finds dual-use parts for his MVs. He also talked about having a stack (maybe not THAT high) of REME how-to-fix funny problems bulletins. Maybe he has a connection in UK who can get you a Ferret part quickly and without massive paperwork.

Failing that, what about taking the broken one to a spring maker?
I think a Dingo is substantially smaller than a Ferret. |
We recently found the same. The spring looked OK when compressed in place but when removed it fell apart, with the fracture surface looking very new. I actually think the coil wire diameter is so large (3/8"?) that the broken ends stayed locked together while compressed, like cracked caps on connecting rods.

Ferret transfer case/gear-box Bus Bar Spring
I located a Bus Bar Spring at Khaki Corps down on Oklahoma for a reasonable price. It's now residing in our ferret's transmission. We'll be mounting the transmission back in the vehicle next Tuesday. We should be ready for road trials shortly after that.
